Wimbledon Garden House

LondonFamily gardenDesign · Build · Planting
The brief

A garden that feels connected to the house — and useful every day.

The concept begins with a renovated family home whose garden is visually green but spatially unresolved. The aim is to replace a single open lawn with a sequence of outdoor rooms: a generous dining terrace, a planted walk, a flexible lawn and a quieter area at the far end.

Rather than adding isolated features, the design uses repeated materials, tree canopies and layered planting to create continuity from the house to the back boundary.

The idea

One garden, several atmospheres.

The spaces closest to the house are architectural and precise. Moving away from the terrace, planting becomes softer, paths narrow and the garden feels increasingly enclosed. The contrast gives the site depth without making it feel divided.

Material language

Warm-toned stone, dark metal edging, natural timber and restrained lighting create a quiet backdrop for planting. The palette is deliberately limited so the garden feels coherent through the seasons.

Planting

Multi-stem trees provide privacy and vertical structure, while grasses, perennials and evergreen forms create movement and year-round depth.
